Cut, Copy and Paste

  1. Highlight the text to be cut or copied by placing the cursor at the beginning of the text and dragging it across the text
  2. There are three ways to cut and copy:
    1. Click the RIGHT mouse button and select cut or copy from the menu that appears
    2. From the menu, select EDIT / CUT or COPY
    3. Hold down the CONTROL KEY and hit the X KEY to cut or the C KEY to copy
  3. To paste, put your cursor where you want to put the text copied
    1. Click the RIGHT mouse button and select paste from the menu that appears
    2. From the menu, select PASTE
    3. Hold down the CONTROL KEY and hit the V KEY to paste

Cut, Copy and Paste in Adobe Acrobat Reader

  1. Open the document in Adobe Acrobat Reader
  2. Click TOOLS / BASIC / SELECT TEXT or select the TEXT TOOL
  3. Highlight the text you want to copy
  4. Click the RIGHT mouse button and choose the COPY TO CLIPBOARD
  5. Go to the document where the text is to be copied (Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, etc.)
  6. Put your cursor where you want to copy the text
  7. Click the RIGHT mouse button and choose the PASTE

Change my screen saver?

  1. Right click on the desktop
  2. Select PROPERTIES / SCREEN SAVER TAB

Make a shortcut icon and put it on my desktop?

  1. Click START / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / WINDOWS EXPLORER
  2. Right click the file you want to shortcut and click CREATE SHORTCUT. This will create another file called Shortcut to file name.
  3. Left click the shortcut and drag to the desktop and release
  4. A shortcut icon will then be on your desktop

Get my task bar back to the bottom of the screen?

Place the mouse arrow any where on the task bar that is empty and drag the mouse in a sort of arc to the bottom, either side or top.

Get my active desktop back after my screen turns all white?

When this happens, you should be able to see your icons but the desktop is white. Click on RESTORE ORIGINAL DESKTOP to restore.

Move and copy files?

  1. In WINDOWS EXPLORER, right click the folder in the RIGHT column to be moved or copied
  2. Holding down the RIGHT mouse button, drag the folder to the new location in the LEFT column
  3. When you release the button, a menu will appear asking if you want to copy or move. Select the appropriate action.

Find out what are my programs with .exe extensions and how can I delete them?

Installation programs have an .exe extension. When you click on the program, it will start and you will find our what it is. If in doubt, do not delete. To delete, click START / CONTROL PANEL / ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS. When a program is deleted, it goes into the Recycle Bin.

Make new folders?

  1. Go to WINDOWS EXPLORER
  2. Highlight the location of the new folder
  3. Click FILE / NEW / FOLDER
  4. Type in the name of the new folder and press ENTER

Rename folders and files?

  1. Go to WINDOWS EXPLORER
  2. Highlight the folder
  3. RIGHT click the folder and select RENAME from the menu
  4. Type in the new name and press ENTER

Convert a document to a pdf format for emailing?

All you need to do is download a FREE program called PDF reDirect v2 .

After you download and install, you can convert any file in any program to a pdf (i.e. Quicken, MS Word, MS Excel). Create your document and save. When you are ready to covert, click File / Print and select PDF reDirect instead of a printer.

Create a shortcut for easy shutdown, logoff or reboot?

To create the Shutdown shortcut, right-click the Desktop

Select New > Shortcut

In the Create Shortcut dialog, type in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ Shutdown.exe

Enter a space after the .exe and type -s for shut down

Click Next

Give the shortcut a name

Click Finish

When you want to shut down your computer, just double-click the Shutdown shortcut.

You can also create a shortcut for logging off or rebooting by entering -l for log off or -r for reboot.
